Plans and Studies

The Commission and the member cities along with partners Three Rivers Park District, Hennepin County, lake associations, and other interested parties are actively working to protect and improve water quality in the watershed.  Iin addition, the Commission periodically performs special studies to find the best, most cost-effective actions to take. These might include subwatershed assessments, feasibility studies, or other special studies.

Third Generation Watershed Management Plan

Every ten years the Commission prepares a Watershed Management Plan that sets forth its vision, goals, and strategies, This Plan may be amended from time to time to revise those strategies based on the latest information or to respond to opportunities.

The Commission will begin work on its Fourth Generation Plan in mid-2024, with completion and approval expected by October 2025.

Subwatershed Assessments

A subwatershed assessment (SWA) is a detailed evaluation of how much stormwater and pollutants such as sediment and nutrients run off the land within an area of interest. A SWA uses a fine-scale model that can predict runoff down to the field level. The results are used to pinpoint the best locations for Best Management Practices.
